Older Vintages
Georgetown Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008
The wine is made at Mount Edward under the supervision of Duncan Forsyth. Here there is a philosophy of minimal interference. It had a warm ferment using native yeasts. Then aged and fermented again in French oak barrels for 11 months. The wine has not been fined or filtered which helps retain the flavours emanating from the site.
From December to the end of February the 2008 vintage was hot. This has given the wine more structure and balance compared to 2007. It has also taken longer to settle in the bottle but the wait has been worth while.
Colour: Dark Ruby.
Nose: Rich fruit – plums and currants, toast and butter. Some light spice – cloves and cinnamon
again gives it some christmas cake notes. There’s also some savouriness at the end. It’s got great complexity - the kind of wine you'll want to take your time over and return to picking up different notes each time.
Taste and Palate: Soft and silky tannins, well married flavours, warm and long. Excellent palate weight and texture. A great food wine. Ian’s serving suggestion: Pork with honey and apple jus.
